Intermediate Class, Week 13
Joe's Smelt. Joe's Smelt is a streamer pattern that imitates small baitfish, particularly smelt, which are a common food source for predatory fish like trout, bass, and pike. Tied with a streamlined body and flash materials, it creates a lifelike swimming motion that closely resembles a fleeing or injured fish. Its profile, combined with the reflective materials, triggers aggressive strikes from fish hunting for larger meals. It should be fished with a slow strip-and-pause retrieve or with a subtle twitch to mimic the movement of small, vulnerable baitfish.
