After decades, These Soul sisters in life and art are reuniting for this exhibition of New Works! Laura Lashley’s public works are instantly recognizable by locals, and visitors can admire her murals in Winston-Salem’s historic Downtown Arts District & beyond.
Loosely grouped into three categories of subject matter, “Energy Abstracts,” “Mandalas,” and “Figurative works,” Lashley’s paintings sing with vibrant pigments and vibrate with pattern & rhythm.
Liz Simmons writes of this exhibit: "This show is an exploration in my own recent madness of being frozen. Being frozen in a disconnected state, I found myself unable to make the marks that are familiar to me. My sense of self and relevance keeping me in a stasis. In an attempt to crawl out of the darkness I had to return to the place where the art of wonder and surprise exist. Where exploration of color over and over again feels like magic. The results, no matter how much I tried, proved to always be different. That element of surprise was the thing that kept me going. That and the continued inspiration and support from my community. These small works were created in that sacred realm.
And then after many long nights alone with my own madness, I realized I needed artistic support. My long time collaborators Triptych entered the realm to continue this exploration on a larger scale. They continue to lift me up and keep me going when I feel there is nothing left to give. I encourage everyone to be creative, even when it hurts. And if you are fortunate enough to share creativity with other people it can lead to the unexpected."
