ABOUT LIYANG
From Wuhan, China, violinist LiYang Liu began his musical journey at the age of five. He studied with students of the Wuhan Conservatory of Music before entering its Affiliated Middle School in 2017 to study under Associate Professor Zhenyang Yu. In 2023, he came to the United States to study here at Lynn, in the studio of Professor Andrés Cárdenes.
Liu has earned recognition in several competitions, including first prize in the 2022 Youth Category of the Wuhan Conservatory “Academy Cup”, fourth place in the 2024 Lynn Concerto Competition, and fourth place in the Professional Category of the 1st Hohhot International Music Competition in 2023.
As a performer, he has served as concertmaster of the Wuhan Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and played with the Lynn Philharmonia, as well as in public benefit concert ensembles both in China and abroad. He has participated in master classes with renowned violinists including Ilya Kaler, Paul Kantor, Arnaud Sussmann, Tong Weidong, and I-Hao Lee. Outside of music, Liu enjoys exploring social psychology, philosophical ideas, and international cuisine.
