Join us for an Opening Reception on Friday, October 7 from 6-9pm at 1530 W. Superior St.
Materialized : Through fascination with the humanistic act of collecting and displaying competitive awards, Finney creates abstract geometric objects of merit for a La-La Land where humans forgo greed and power, and instead aim to simply be better people in a community-first society. Bold–yet still humble–badges, trophies, and emblems exist in blocks of color that speak the truth of their materiality as visual reminders of lifelong achievements. Finney’s playful shapes speak across various scales and methods of construction.
Artist Bio:
Angela Finney works closely with architects and designers building large scale vignette installations and creates one of a kind fine art pieces of both found and crafted objects. An array of materials from wood, to ceramics, encaustics, and paint . Her calling is to make and inspire. Light hearted character-esque shapes, bright color pairings and less than serious abstract subject matter works flow from her studio. Much like designing furniture, Finney thinks of entire spaces that inhabit her works, how they play off of negative space, how they interact with the planes and surfaces.
