Who should attend?
- Anyone who is bereaved. The death may have been through illness or sudden death. You may have experienced the loss of a partner, parent, child, grandchild, friend, sibling, work colleague or relative. The death may have been a recent death or a death from many years ago.
- Anyone who is supporting a family member or friend who is bereaved.
- Anyone who works in the community and may have a role in supporting those who have been bereaved
What will happen at the event?
- Tea/coffee on arrival (7pm)
- An information talk by a professional working in the area of bereavement (7.30pm)
- Q&A session with a panel of people with lived experience of bereavement (8pm)
- Bereavement service stands. Representatives from a range of local bereavement supports will host a stand at the event.
Guest Speakers: Niamh Finucane (Coordinator of Social Work & Bereavement Service, St Francis Hospice Dublin)
She has worked there for 18 years, initially as a Senior Social Worker on the Community Palliative Care Team and then in the In-patient unit, moving in the last 10 years to her current role. Niamh also has previous experience in Child Welfare & Child Protection work, fostering and Medical Social Work in an acute hospital setting.
Niamh has written multiple articles and presented on the role of social work in palliative care and working in bereavement, including lecturing on MSc in Palliative care and MSc in Social Work. She is the social work representative on the National Clinical Programme in Palliative Care and has been involved in national projects on the development of palliative care and the development of bereavement services.
Bereavement service stands
There will be representatives from a range of local bereavement support services at the event. Attendees can take away some information leaflets about the services and, if they wish, can talk with service representatives about the support they provide.
