About this Event
Life is riddled with paradox: symbol and reality, self and cosmos, inside and outside, I and thou, ego and actuality, organism and environment, time and eternity, the finite and infinite, the relative and absolute, illusion and awakening, and the list goes on and on. Paradox not only takes many forms, but also permeates many domains of life, ranging from the psychological, somatic, interpersonal, and societal to the philosophical, planetary, cosmic, and spiritual.
What are we to make of all of this? How do we hold and understand paradox? How can it be transformative, healing, and liberating, rather than constricting, fragmenting, and binding?
Diving into the heart of paradox and the teachings of Alan Watts, Dr. Brian Wheeler will present some of his research and theory on paradox, human nature, and what he calls “life’s ultimate riddle.” Together we will discuss, explore, and engage paradox with head and heart, both individually and collectively. Grounding and clarifying aged Chinese tea will be served as we, rather paradoxically, inquire into the great complexity, simplicity, and mystery of existence.
