Step back in time to the 1940s and celebrate the end of WWII.Spirit of 1945 Day is observed on the second weekend in August, coinciding with the anniversary of August 14, 1945. That was the day Harry Truman announced that the most destructive war in human history was over and spontaneous celebrations broke out around the world.
That is why each summer the 14 acre History Park is transformed back to the summer of 1945. The event captures the war and home front experience with exhibits and interactive activities for all ages including live big bang music, swing dancing, a WWII tent city, vintage cars, a fashion show, 1940s era children’s games, trolley rides and over a dozen Victorian era homes and buildings are open to the public to explore.
The day climaxes with Truman’s end of war announcement with a reenactment of the famous TIMES SQUARE kiss and a homecoming victory parade. The event lasts into the evening with a USO style swing dance featuring The Swing Solution big band will have you jumping and jiving under the lights of History Park.
