Join the Creston Neighborhood Association's Living Green in Creston Committee, Spencer High (Founder of Querkus Creative), and Travis Kurtz (Community Science Coordinator at the John Ball Zoo) at Donald J. Lamoreaux Park as we learn about, observe, and document moths!
"Moth sheeting" is a great way to participate in community science and learn about the night shift pollinators in your own neighborhood. During this event we will set up two light sheets to attract moths and other cool insects. As they gather, we’ll take a closer look at them and try to identify who is who.
While we wait for moths to come to the sheets, we’ll take a quick hike around the park to learn about floodplain forests and some of the species that inhabit them. Floodplain forests exist at the intersection of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, and are important for nutrient transfer between the two. They also play a crucial role in mitigating the impacts of floods, and because of this are extremely important to human communities that exist near them.
We recommend downloading iNaturalist prior to this event.
This event will happen outside and walking is required. Please come dressed for the weather and bring a headlamp or flashlight.
Attendance is FREE, but RSVP is required.
