Augusto Boal, the renowned Brazilian dramatist, theater director and political activist, saw everyday life as a theatrical performance where we present ourselves to each other and the world. Boal’s Theater of the Oppressed uses embodiment exercises and performers’ own stories as tools for exploring experiences of struggle and opportunities for personal and social change. Rio de Janiero-based theater instructor Geo Britto will discuss the philosophy and methods of his teacher, Augusto Boal, and his own 35-year career as a Boal practitioner and teacher with students worldwide.
Britto is currently in Sacramento to lead workshops for Short Center Repertory, InnerVision Theater and Theater V58, whose performers are neurodivergent, blind, low vision, Deaf and hard of hearing.
This FREE event is presented by Short Center Rep and ALL IN: The Festival of Accessible Theater, with support from the Sacramento Poetry Center.
