About the program

A signature program of the USC Vierbi School of Engineering, the Global Challenges Impact Lab is a hub of innovation and human-centered design and engineering. We bring together bright minds from diverse disciplines into startup-style incubator teams. Equipped with resources and immersed in real-world problem spaces, these teams are tasked with developing technology-driven solutions with and for people caught in the midst of global crises. Collaborating closely with affected communities, NGOs, first responders, national and local government agencies, our lab has been a launching pad for impactful solutions.

Now in its 6th year, it has generated more than 30 student-driven innovations, some of which have been successfully implemented and are actively making a difference in various parts of the world.

Our purpose

At the core of our program is the belief that young minds hold the key to shaping a brighter future. Our mission is to empower these young innovators to envision and create solutions, especially in the face of adversity. By uniting the fresh perspectives of young talent with the guidance of industry advisors, community partners, and the resources of a top-tier university, we create a powerful force for positive change in challenging times. And while we're doing it, we're also crafting a new academic landscape, where character-driven innovation and real-world application lead the way.
Join us in this Lives Not Grades journey!
