About this Event
About your teacher:
Jen Byrne is a sustainable fashion designer from Dublin, now based in Edinburgh. Her work uses exclusively vintage and reclaimed materials in a bid to showcase the beauty of reuse!
Jen studied Fashion Design in Ireland before coming to Scotland to do a Masters in Sustainable & Ethical Fashion. She really loves teaching people and sharing in the joy of creating, upcycling, making unique pieces and reconnecting with our clothing.
About the workshop:
In partnership with Finisterre, join slow fashion designer Jen Byrne for a workshop on repair and upcycling by hand. You'll gain essential sewing knowledge and practical tips to build your confidence with hand sewing and extending the life of your most loved clothes.
This workshop is a friendly, relaxed environment suitable for both complete beginners and experienced sewists. You'll learn how to repair or upcycle not only your own garments, but have the chance to pick up hints and tricks from what others are working on too.
Ideas & tips on what to bring:
You are welcome to bring garments from any brand that need a little love to bring them back to their best!
For example:
- Garments with stains or tear
- Garments with ripped seams
- Any other garments that need to be repaired or reimagined for you to get better use out of them!
Tools will be provided to help you repair your items. If there's a particular material you'd like to use, please do bring this along.
