About this Event
Join the discussion, either in-person or via Zoom, as the LALL book discussion group continues its year-long exploration of issues related to labor and employment with a discussion of A Collective Bargain: Unions, Organizing, and the Fight for Democracy, by Jane McAlevey. Labor activist McAlevey, who sadly passed away on July 7, 2024, delivers a persuasive argument that the power of “strong, democratic” trade unions can fix many of America’s social problems.
Alex Caputo-Pearl will also be joining the book discussion. One of the chapters in the book is devoted to the United Teachers of Los Angeles and its successful teachers’ strike in 2019, and has been described as the “crown jewel” chapter of the book. Alex Caputo-Pearl was the President of UTLA at the time and a major force in the strike. He worked closely with McAlevey before, during and after the strike, which is reflected in the chapter of the book on UTLA.6
Join the discussion and share your thoughts and ideas on this timely issue. All are welcome!
