About this Event
They climbed Capitol Hill only to have their stories left out of the historical narrative. This tour puts lawmakers and justice warriors front and center to acknowledge the contributions of women in the legislative and judicial branches of government. Monumental decisions made by women serving in Congress have significantly shaped the political landscape of the country, but female representation is still disproportionate in elected office. The grounds of Capitol Hill are home to trailblazing activism, like the suffragists who are honored at the historic Belmont-Paul Women’s Equality National Monument. How has their legacy impacted movements over the last century? Of course, a women’s history tour of the hill would be incomplete without celebration of Dr. Carla Hayden, the first woman to earn the title of Librarian of Congress. This experience truly offers a broad perspective of local and national civics and we invite you to rethink American politics with us.
