Bios:
Bull City Trio is a soulful jazz‑funk trio hailing from Durham, NC, fusing the dreamy global grooves of Khruangbin, the tight knit funk of Lettuce, and the unconventional flow of Julian Lage into one irresistible musical blend. Led by James Goldberg on guitar, Max Puhala on bass, and Jeremy E. O. Anderson on drums, their sound flows effortlessly between laid‑back rhythms and foot-tapping improvisation. Each member brings a distinct voice—Goldberg’s lush chord voicings, Puhala’s deep pocket bass lines, and Anderson’s dynamic drumming—creating a cohesive yet exploratory vibe. Together, Bull City Trio delivers a vintage, groove‑driven experience that invites listeners into their warm, genre‑bending universe.
Jake Richter is a composer, drummer, and educator who splits his time between New York City and Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
He maintains an active performance schedule both as a bandleader and a sideman, and appears frequently at venues like The Jazz Gallery, Chris’ Jazz Cafe, Shapeshifter Lab, Barbés, and Bar Bayeux. He assembled the Jake Richter Quartet during his monthly residency at The 55 Bar in 2021, and has since taken the ensemble on 3 national tours. His debut album, Listen to the Birds is out now on Endectomorph Records.
Richter will begin his PhD in music composition at Duke university in August of 2025. In 2020, he graduated with his Masters Degree in Jazz Composition from the Manhattan School of Music. There he studied with luminaries Miguel Zenón, Jim McNeely, Kendrick Scott, and Jeff Ballard.
