Come and dance with us to the rhythms of live Swing Jazz and join us as the well-established Steppin' Out Jazz Band takes us on a musical journey through the fabulous decade of the 1930s, On Saturday, November 23rd!During the 1930s jazz continued to mature as a musical form. Big bands began transforming it into danceable swing music. Several famous female vocalists got their start as jazz singers in the 1930s, including Ella Fitzgerald (1918–1996) and Billie Holiday (1915–1959).
Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller and Judy Garland were all at the top of their game and the charts. Fred Astaire had a nice run in the 1930s and Count Basie established his dominance.
Meet the band! The lineup includes Alice Ayvazian on vocals, Dimitris Miaris on piano, Costas Challoumas on double bass, and Marios Spyrou on drums.
Alice Ayvazian received her Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance from Berklee College of Music, Boston, Massachusetts, a Master's in Educational Leadership from Saint Mary's University, San Antonio, Texas, and a second Master's in Classical Performance & Pedagogy from the University of Nicosia, Cyprus. In the United States, she participated as a lead and backing vocalist in numerous studio recording projects as well as various performances and concerts.
Since returning to Cyprus, she has established her reputation as an active figure in the local music scene. A member of the Cyprus Voice Centre, Alice is also a sought-after clinician and vocal coach. She has presented various vocal workshops & seminars for choirs, educational institutions, and music conservatories. She is currently the instructor of Jazz Voice at the Department of Music and Dance at the University of Nicosia (since 2009) and the Director of the University's Jazz Choir (since 2011).
