About this Event
In this workshop you will be guided through principal bookbinding techniques to start designing and producing your own photo book, zine or small artist book. This 3-hour workshop allows you to be free and playful with your work and gives you the skills to help you move towards a final book concept.
We will provide you with all the materials you need to get started, including paper and binding tools. We only ask that you bring your own content / images and / or plenty of magazines from which you can cut out pictures, texts, illustrations or any other visuals. Laura will instruct you in several bookbinding techniques and will host a collage-making session. Whether using your new or archive work, or content from your magazines, at the end of the workshop you will have turned your vision into a handmade publication that you will be able to take home with you.
There is no need for you to have an idea in mind prior to the workshop; we’ll provide some fun, idea generation activities to get you inspired!

About Laura Chen
Laura Chen is a Dutch image maker and writer based in the UK. Working within the fields of photography, mixed-media and found or archival material, her multidisciplinary practice associates a fine art and documentary approach where research, implementation and intervention are closely intertwined. Recurring themes and interests include identity, memory, tactility, the marginalised, disregarded and overlooked – whether in everyday objects or groups of people who live and work on the fringes of society. In 2022, she was nominated as Foam Talent and Palm* Photo Prize Finalist. Her work has been featured in, and published by, Photo London, PhMuseum, British Journal of Photography, PHROOM, Lensculture, Canon, GUP, Life Framer, Refinery29, Aesthetica Magazine, amongst others.
