Fall for Ocala Civic Theatre’s dramatic comedy THE VELOCITY OF AUTUMN, live on stage November 9-26.
Widowed artist and lifelong bohemian Alexandra (Danuta Jacob) has lived for decades in her beloved Brooklyn brownstone. It’s filled with her cherished art, books, records – and now full of mason jars filled with a secret liquid she sees as an insurance policy rather than a new exhibit.
Eighty years old, the fiery-spirited Alexandra is running out of time as well as out of patience with her grown children, who want her to move into a retirement home. Though backed into a corner, Alexandra refuses to “go gentle into that good night” – or really anywhere. She barricades herself in an upstairs room and prepares to win this family feud, by drastic measures if necessary. And the clock is ticking.
In a moment of desperation, her son Chris (Scott Fitzgerald) climbs his mother’s favorite tree and comes in a second-story window to try to reason with her before she burns all her bridges. As they argue, reminisce, and try to find a way out of a no-win situation, these two exasperated souls discover that they might be kindred spirits after all.
Lovely, touching, and funny, Eric Coble’s two-person play will resonate with anyone who’s struggled to find common ground between generations – especially with family you love. You’ll be blown away by this explosive dramatic comedy!
THE VELOCITY OF AUTUMN is directed by Eb Madson. Scenic designers are Greg Thompson and Katherine “Jack” Foust. Costume designer is Amanda Jones. Lighting designer is David Castaneda. Sound designers are Jazmine Whipple and Alexa Hall. Stage manager is Jay Barrows.
