All aboard! The comedy AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS is live on stage January 20 through February 6, 2022 at Ocala Civic Theatre.
A trip around the world in 80 days? In 1872? British explorer Phileas Fogg (Trafton Crandall) can't resist a challenge. So when everyone else says, “It can’t be done” and bets against him, the fearless Fogg simply replies, “Hold my tea” and takes the outrageous wager to do so.
Accompanied by his faithful and equally adventurous French servant Passepartout (James Ray Taylor III), Fogg dashes off to beat the clock and circle the globe in less than three months. From London, the daring duo whisks their way through Suez, Bombay, Calcutta, Hong Kong, Yokohama, San Francisco, and New York – encountering stampeding elephants, raging typhoons, and runaway trains along the way!
Further complicating their quest, Fogg and Passepartout are pursued by a determined detective (Megan Wager) who believes Fogg to be a bank robber. They are also joined in their travels and assisted by the endlessly knowledgeable British officer Sir Francis Cromarty (Christian Gonzales). But perhaps most heart-stopping of all is their encounter with the lovely Aouda (Lily Capote), whose company complicates more for Fogg than winning a wager.
It’s a wild race for sure – and wildest of all, these five actors play 30+ roles in this hysterically fast-paced farce adapted by Mark Brown from the classic novel by Jules Verne. Adventures abound in this whirlwind comedy!
