Originally from Madrid, Spain, Laura Fernandez spent her early years between Spain and Switzerland before relocating to Calgary at the age of eight with her family. Now based in Toronto, she is a multi-talented artist, excelling in visual arts, piano performance, and song writing.
Her debut album, "The Other Side," earned her recognition at the New York International Independent Music Festival and led to performances at prestigious venues such as Madison Square Garden, the Knitting Factory, and The Bitter End. Featuring entirely original compositions, the album serves as a personal reflection on her experiences with motherhood, love, marriage, and separation.
Following her debut, Laura released "Un Solo Beso," predominantly in Spanish, celebrating her Spanish heritage and Latin influences. Produced by the late Juno award-winning Billy Bryans, the album showcases collaborations with esteemed Canadian musicians and received significant airplay domestically and internationally.
In 2020, amidst the pandemic, Laura unveiled "Okay, Alright," a collection of songs spanning two decades of her song writing journey, earning international acclaim for its craftsmanship. The album was meticulously produced, engineered, and mastered by the late multi-Grammy award-winning producer and mastering engineer Peter J. Moore.
Beyond her musical endeavors, Laura has travelled to India in 2018 for a five-week exploration of Indo, Latin, and jazz fusions, resulting in a CD release under the Jazz Goa label.
Recognized for her exceptional talent, Laura Fernandez has been officially named a Steinway Artist, joining a prestigious roster of pianists selected for their dedication to excellence and love for Steinway pianos. Additionally, she was honoured as one of the 10 Most Influential Hispanic Canadians in 2015.
Since 2008, Laura has served as the producer and host of Café Latino on JazzFM91, further solidifying her presence and influence in the Canadian music scene.
