Steve Kamerling, formally trained on guitar, has been a working guitarist, bassist (upright and electric) and vocalist for over 45 years. He has performed with top 40 and jazz combos in Kalamazoo, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Lexington and Chicago at numerous clubs, festivals and private venues. He specializes in jazz and pop standards and is strongly influenced by New Orleans style jazz/R&B, with side ventures into bluegrass and Cajun music on upright bass and vocals. Steve’s diverse repertoire covers vocalists from Frank Sinatra, Sam Cook and Willie Nelson, to Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Lil’ Naz. His instrumental influences include guitarists George Benson and Russell Malone and bassists Ron Carter and Chris McBride. He has performed with members of the Kalamazoo and Lexington Symphony orchestras, opera stars, Motown’s “The Velvelettes,”members of the WMU jazz studies faculty, local jazz and pop duos, trios and quartets and has appeared at the New Orleans Jazz Festival and in a full-length movie.
