We are proud to welcome back on stage top British rock 'n' roll chart star Mike Berry, who was billed as Britain's answer to the legendary Buddy Holly, enjoyed big hits in the 60s and 80s, still tours theatres and other major music venues, and also won fame as a TV actor.
Mike first sprang to international stardom in 1961 with the haunting and heartfelt "Tribute To Buddy Holly", recorded very much in the style of the great Buddy Holly and The Crickets.
The BBC at the time refused to play the record because they felt it was what they called a "death disc" but it became so popular across the world that "Tribute To Buddy Holly" has become a pop classic.
Mike and his then band The Outlaws scored more hits with "Don't You Think It's Time" being a big one for him internationally.
His producer was the legendary Joe Meek of "Telstar" fame who had a hit-making stable of artists. Meek was a huge Buddy Holly fan and many of Mike's records were in the Buddy and The Crickets mould.
Sir Paul McCartney, Buddy Holly’s parents, his original backing band The Crickets, and Buddy’s wife Maria Elena have all endorsed him as the British Buddy Holly.
Besides his 60s successes Mike went on to have a big international hit in 1980 with "The Sunshine Of Your Smile" which was produced by his friend Chas Hodges of Chas and Dave.
In more recent years Mike went to Nashville, Tennessee to record with the original Crickets and released the CD "About Time Too!"
In the 1970s, Mike branched out into a career as an actor and appeared in many television commercials before joining the cast of the TV version of the Worzel Gummidge books as the father (Mr. Peters) of the two children, along with Jon Pertwee and Una Stubbs.
In 1981 he replaced Trevor Bannister's character Mr. Lucas in the British sitcom Are You Being Served? and stayed until the end of the show's run in 1985.
Mike still tours today with the likes of Marty Wilde, Eden Kane and Mark Wynter - and way back headlined a concert with the then upcoming Beatles.
His band for tonight is Rox-a-Bit comprising three top musicians in Andy Roberts on guitar, Roger "Snifs" Nicholas on bass and Alan Jackman on drums.
