This show will be open to the public and live-streamed from the 3rd Street Facebook page. KAT MILLS will be our featured performer with the show starting at 8:00 PM EST. PAUL HEILKER will open at 7:30 PM EST. The LiveStream feed will begin at 7:30 PM. At 8:00 PM EST, we welcome back house favorite Kat Mills from Blacksburg, VA! Kat is about the closest thing to Joan Baez this writer has ever seen and her performances are absolutely magical (my words, not hers – can you tell I’m a fan?). She is a writer, singer, guitarist and seeker rooted in GenX habits, nodding to 60s and 70s troubadour traditions, and openly commenting on the aches and triumphs of the moment. She was a finalist in the 2015 NewSong/LEAF Singer-Songwriter Competition, has had original song placements in film and podcasts, and appears as a back-up vocalist for other artists. You’d better come early, cause every time Kat plays 3rd Street, it’s a full house. Check her out at http://www.katmills.com/.
At 7:30 PM EST, we welcome back Paul Heilker. Paul makes tender-hearted music for a hard-hearted world. He believes that language is a way of being in the world, and to create a less hostile and violent future, he says, we need less hostile and violent ways of communicating. We need to stop the verbal warfare of argument -- attacking others' views, defending our positions -- and learn instead how to emerge toward each other, naked and honest and vulnerable, and model that path for others to follow. And someone needs to go first, despite all the risks involved. In his recordings and performances, Paul thus seeks an authenticity like that of Elliott Smith and Iron and Wine – the beautifully imperfect realism of a plaintive voice and an old guitar, emerging toward his listeners. Check him out at https://paulheilker.com/.
TO FIND THE STREAM – 1) If you have “liked” the 3rd Street Page, you should see a red “Facebook Live” icon show up on your page and you should just click on it. 2) If you have not “liked” our Facebook page, go to our page and look under “videos”. It should be there.
Now in our 39th year, 3rd Street Coffeehouse is a non-profit listening room run by volunteers and never has a cover charge. We ask that you support our musicians by contributing to the real or virtual hat, which will be identified during the performance. This will greatly help them continue their music and help support their livelihood as performing artists. We thank you in advance!
