About this Event
This workshop led by The Photography Squad team will provide you with a structured approach to live music photography, giving you hands-on experience of capturing a band in a dedicated venue with state of the art sound and AV technology. The Bedford provides the perfect environment to capture a live band playing their set without an audience.
This is a live music event held at The Bedford, Balham. We’ll be covering camera settings, positioning yourself and camera angles, preparation for the shoot, engaging with bands and event organisers and understanding their expectations, as well as editing and use of images. You’ll come away learning relevant skills you can put into action yourself as well as being able to capture some incredible images on the day.
Overview of the workshop will include:
Camera settings and equipment: Live music photography is challenging with low light and fast action. We will be working in manual setting, shooting RAW and will provide guidance on pushing shutter speed and ISO to acceptable limits. We will also consider your other camera settings and equipment so you can prepare before you shoot these types of events.
Preparation for the event: Before you shoot, you need to consider what you are looking to achieve and if delivering for a client, what they expect from you. In a live music event, there will likely be an audience and therefore your positioning will be important to think about beforehand.
Editing and delivery: We will provide editing tips and also provide guidance on delivery and use of your images.
Petra Gent and Phil Moran will lead this event and The Photography Squad team members are on hand to provide individual and group support/constructive feedback where required.
We will be announcing the band playing this event shortly and be assured, they'll be bringing energy and great music.

Please bring a mirrorless/DSLR camera. We suggest a range of lenses if you have to include wide, medium fixed and zoom. This will enable you to take some intimate performance shots of individuals as well as whole band action.
