About this Event

OPLIAM is a family man, activist, and musician that hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Inspired by artists like John Trudell, A Tribe Called Red, Bob Marley, and Gary Clark Jr, OPLIAM manages to cultivate a unique sound that pays homage to each of these artists and their diverse sounds. OPLIAM’s sound is a mix of rock, reggae, folk, rap and blues and his songs exude soul and truth. He is a proud Native American musician who creates with authenticity and respect to his identity.

OPLIAM’s connection to his spirituality, nature, and heritage radiate powerfully in his music. In his song “Two Worlds”, OPLIAM states: “The sky is my ceiling, and the earth is my floor, and I can't take these walls no more. “Our history didn’t start with genocide, and our history won’t end with pesticide”. OPLIAM understands the power that he has as an artist- He challenges misconceptions about the experiences of Indigenous people and advocates for the rights and well-being of the Native American community. In “Two Worlds” he sings with frustration, and determination while maintaining an inner peace and confidence about the future for marginalized people. In “Awoke” he references how pain serves as a purpose, shares the importance of letting go of what no longer serves you, and embraces the importance of reconnecting to nature to find peace and clarity. His voice remains steady and strong while the bass thumps and the guitar is strummed: creating an infectious rhythm. He utilizes woodwind instruments, drums, nature sounds and spoken word to create a mystical sound that emulates traditional Native American music on “Fire Flies”. Other songs like “Salmon”, and “Rejection Mixed My Medicine” have a groovy, upbeat, reggae influence.

OPLIAM uses his music to convey life’s experiences and the variety of emotions that comes with it. He creates with the goal of spreading a message of love and compassion and works hard to serve as a point of representation for Native American artists. OPLIAM does not let the difficulty of gaining success as a marginalized artist defeat or discourage him, and only uses it as fuel to keep going. With powerful lyricism, eclectic electronic sounds, and steady reggae beats, OPLIAM creates a vibrant sound that is hard to forget.
