About the Presentation:
There has long been a rift between freshwater and saltwater aquarists. More often than not, you hear about saltwater aquariums being more difficult to care for or more costly when compared to its freshwater counterparts. While these concerns are valid in some contexts, not all marine aquariums need to be difficult, nor are they exclusive to those willing to spend a pretty penny on specialty equipment.
Macroalgae aquariums have become a popular and rapidly growing niche of the saltwater aquarium hobby and provides a great deal of parallels between planted aquariums and the salty side of the hobby. Aquarium equipment, dosing, aquascaping techniques, propagation, and maintenance routines can all be transferred and adapted to caring for marine ornamental algae. This makes macroalgae aquariums an easy transition from planted aquariums for those craving to take the plunge into marine aquarium keeping!
For this meeting, we will be setting up a nano macroalgae tank from start to finish while we cover the basics of caring for these captivating marine aquariums.

About the Speaker:
Johnathon’s interest in aquariums stems from time spent exploring Midwest lakes, rivers, and creeks growing up. Like many aquarists, the infatuation with the hobby began with a single gifted goldfish and rapidly grew from there, ultimately leading him to pursue a degree in Aquatic Biology. He has worked in various positions throughout the aquarium industry and simultaneously enjoyed practicing different niches of the hobby like aquascaping, fish breeding, aquatic plant propagation, and working with marine systems. His years in the aquarium trade led him to designing, installing, and maintaining filtration systems for many styles of saltwater and freshwater aquariums. Today he continues working in the industry while traversing his passion for aquarium related topics.
