About this Event
Literature in Translation Book Group with Mandy and Maritza
Discussing After The Winter by Guadalupe Nettel, translated by Rosalind Harvey
Led by Greenlight booksellers Mandy and Maritza, our Literature in Translation Book Group meets monthly to discuss books from around the world, with a particular focus on marginalized voices and indie presses.
For February, the group discusses After The Winter, written by international award-winning Mexican author Guadalupe Nettel, and translated from Spanish by award-winning literary translator Rosalind Harvey. In parallel and entwining stories that move from Havana to Paris to New York City, Nettel demonstrates that no routine, no argument for the pleasures of solitude, can withstand our most human drive to find ourselves in another and fall in love, and no depth of emotion can protect us from love’s inevitable loss. Longlisted for the 2019 Best Translated Book Award, "Nettel’s sharp, potent novel depicts how even the briefest relationship can affect the rest of a life," (Publishers Weekly, starred review).
