A 2025 novel about Bud Stanley, an obituary writer who, after a drunken night, publishes his own obituary, leading him to being listed as dead in his company's system. This prevents him from being fired, giving him a forced second chance at life. As Bud awaits his fate at work, he does the only logical thing, with the help of his best friend and a new acquaintance, he goes to the wakes and funerals of total strangers to learn how to live again.

John Kenney is a New York Times bestselling author and winner of the Thurber Prize for American Humor. He has been a contributing writer for The New Yorker since 1999.
