About this Event
This event will develop subject knowledge and English teaching expertise through a range of mini sessions using either expert-led annotation work, discussions around character, theme or context, or modelled teaching strategies.
Sessions include:
- Small poems; big ideas: exploring shorter poems in the Eduqas anthology and considering ways in which we can help students take ownership of a whole poem and confidence to move from the word to the abstract ideas more comfortably.
- Chicken, Comprehension, Egg, Pleasure, Reading: exploring the complexity of the notion of 'Reading for Pleasure' and the vital work of ensuring that we are able to provide the right combination of spontaneity with deliberate, richly sequence curricula.
- Form and structure in the Romantic era
- Approaching unseen poetry: an introduction to strategies that support students with unseen poetry. We will look at how to provide effective scaffolds for their initial analysis and subsequent written work.
- Art, Poetry and the importance of ambiguity: Looking at interpretations and meanings in light of the ambiguous!
