Listening Room with Aki Onda

What does it mean to listen to the Lower East Side? Artist Aki Onda presents a listening event featuring field recordings and archival films from the neighborhood’s community gardens, following his project Silence Prevails: Lower East Side Community Gardens During the Pandemic (2020). For this event, the artist has also invited longtime neighbors and collaborators to share their own relationships to these sounds and memories. They reverberate and form portraits of these living community spaces that are as layered and multivalent as the gardens themselves.
