About this Event

The third installment of our new quarterly event features performances and immersive sound experiences with leading multi-disciplinary sound artists. Listening By Moonrise activates experiences at the park that provide moments of reflection, connection, and joy within the context of a community centered green space.

Featuring: Nailah Hunter, Adee Roberson, No Translation

This program has been adapted from Clockshop’s Reading by Moonrise program previously held at the Bowtie. We have moved to LA State Historic Park in Chinatown as part of our strategic response to state and local health ordinances and how public gatherings can take place during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For Listening By Moonrise, the three artists will be stationed in different locations throughout the park as pop-up musical experiences, and will perform for small groups following physical distancing protocols. Unlike past Listening by Moonrise events, this event is not ticketed or guided. When attendees arrive at the Clockshop check-in table they will be given a map of the park and where the performances are located. Music will begin at 5:15 pm and will end at approximately 6:30 pm. Attendees are welcome to wander the park and listen to music at their own pace, and will not be separated into designated groups. This event is not guided and free with RSVP.

If you are planning to attend, please make sure to follow current LA County COVID-19 safety guidelines, including wearing a face mask and observing physical distancing protocol. Two hand wash stations are available in the park and there will be extra masks and hand sanitizer available at the Clockshop check-in table.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Nailah Hunter is a Caribbean American experimental composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles, CA. Inspired by high fantasy & nature magic, she creates immersive sonic worlds for rest and rumination with harp, layered vocals, and glistening synths.

Adee Roberson was born in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1981. Her work is a meditation on symbolism and texture. In the form of performance and installation, her work melds vibration and technicolor visions through paintings and melodic compositions. These works offer a refracted timeline of black diasporic movement, weaving sonic and familial archives, with landscape, rhythm, form, and spirit.

No Translation is the solo project of Emma Palm, a Southern California based ambient electronic musician and visual artist with Taiwanese roots. Her music often collages synths, field recordings, and vocals that sonically explore the beauty, melancholy, and ambiguous nature of personal experience with environments, relationships, and memories.
