About this Event
In a time before Dickens' A Christmas Carol, before Santa Claus wore red, before the widespread popularity of the Christmas Tree, and before department stores or the “Black Friday” shopping mayhem, how did colonists celebrate their religious holidays? Did the war change how people celebrated? What would we recognize? What would be foreign to us? This session will explore holiday events, traditions, and stories during the Revolution.
In-person and virtual tickets are available. This event is free and open to the public, thanks to generous support from SC Humanities.
WHAT TO EXPECT: The performance will be about an hour long, including (a) an informational/lecture component of about 15-20 minutes, (b) a storytelling component of at least 20 minutes, and (c) questions & answers with audience participation. A period-appropriate food item will be prepared (by the volunteers of Stone Soup Storytelling Institute) as part of the refreshments offered to in-person attendees. While most attendees will be adults, this event is family friendly. Children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.
