Lisa Walker: Jewellery Workshop

If you are eagre to experiment, explore and consider contemporary jewellery practices then this workshop is for you!
Satisfy your intrinsic nature to forage, collect and "make" by joining MPRG exhibiting artist Lisa Walker for an immersive jewellery making workshop.
This workshop will be an investigation into the materials we have in our environment and the potential these materials have to be made into jewellery. We will investigate the history, associations and aesthetics of your collected materials and experiment with an array of techniques and possibilities to make jewellery pieces. Through making and sharing, we will challenge the idea of "concept" and discuss the issues of jewellery, life, and art.
As soon as you book yourself in to the workshop, start collecting your materials! You may find workshop materials on the street, in the rubbish, random storage spots or your workplace. You might buy some materials from your favourite shops or second-hand stores, or you may already have a collection at home. The materials you collect will be the basis of what you'll be working with in the workshop.
Check out Lisa's website here to familiarise yourself with her practice.
MPRG will supply communal materials and some jewellery making equipment that will assist with building your pieces, for example glue, string, binding wires, pliers, paint and scissors. Based on what you are wanting to achieve, please bring additional tools such as hammers, files, drills, etc. Some activity will need to take place outside, which will be considered on the day. If you are still unsure, give us a call and chat to Leah or Dunja!
Lisa Walker was born in 1967 in Wellington, New Zealand. She studied Craft and Design at Otago Poltechnic Art School in Dunedin from 1988-89. After travelling for two years around Australia, Great Britain and Asia, establishing small workshops as she went, she returned to New Zealand and founded Workshop 6 with other jewellers in Auckland. From 1995-2001 she was a student of Otto Künzli at the Akadamie der Bildenden Künste in Munich, Germany. She established her studio in Munich from 2002-2009, returning to Wellington in 2009 where she is still currently based.
