Lisa Sokolov on vocals, Jake Sokolov-Gonzalez on cell. OUTDOOR concert. $20Lisa Sokolov was born in Manhasset, New York, and was exposed to jazz from a young age through her father, who played stride piano. She began singing and playing piano from a young age.
In 1972 she attended Bennington College, studying with a wealth of musicians that included drummer Milford Graves, trumpeter Bill Dixon, and saxophonist Jimmy Lyons. She doubled major in music/black music and minored in philosophy, and then pursued graduate work in music therapy. Her book ‘Embodied VoiceWork: Beyond Singing’ was published by Barcelona Publishers. Her latest music, “Afternoon Poem”, is part of bassist William Parker’s 10-CD set, “Migration of Silence Into And Out Of The Tone World.
