Liquid Architecture Presents a double headline performance featuring Judith Hamann + James Rushford showcasing a new collaborative project for cello and organ titled 'Midmeste', and a set from Ned Collette performing new compositions from his recently released 'Our Other History' album.
Presented in the lush acoustic environment of the Carlton Church of All Nations.
Meaning ‘the midmost point’ (from Old English), Midmeste threads a unique and multi-layered web of relationships between cello, organ and acoustic space–a tracing of multiple strands, outlines and connections in which original and found musical materials, notions of performative embodiment and psychoacoustic remnants recur. The project incorporates late-Medieval musical texts in an expanded microtonal framework, which are given further historical context and significance through the unique opportunity to work with the organ of the Valère basilica in Sion where the piece was developed in 2023 - the world’s oldest playable organ.
Ned Collette is a musician and songwriter originally from Naarm/Melbourne. His early background in improvised and experimental guitar music evolved simultaneously with a dedication to song form, and has resulted in seven albums under his own name. The latest of these – Our Other History – was released in September this year, and features contributions from Judith Hamann, Leah Senior, Jim White and Mick Turner of Dirty Three, Steve Heather, and The Necks’ Chris Abrahams, among others. In addition to his song work, he has released works such as 2019’s Afternoon—Dusk, a trio record of long-form instrumental music with James Rushford and Joe Talia. Collette tours extensively in the USA and Europe, and has most recently been working with Will Oldham aka Bonnie “Prince” Billy. He lives in Berlin.
