Following an exciting signing announcement and a very busy end of year, Lip Critic have put themselves on the map with the release of their power-punching ‘It’s The Magic’. Audiences were captivated by the sheer energy and undeniable chemistry as they toured the US, sharing stages with Screaming Females and Geese, and made their way across the UK / EU including a stop at the Pitchfork Festival in Paris.
They’ve amassed critical acclaim in a short period of time with NME saying they’re “on their way to becoming the next great NYC band” and Paste Magazine calling them “an apocalyptic wasteland of NYC’s best underground punk”. ‘It’s The Magic’ was included by Rolling Stone on their ‘Songs You Need to Know’ column, it was premiered with Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC 6 Music and considered “totally essential” by Matt Wilkinson.
“The Heart”, which follows the band’s Partisan debut single ‘It’s The Magic’, is a high-speed train of delirious percussion, courtesy of two drummers(!), and wonderfully demented electronic samples, weaving in and out of frontman Bret Kaser’s lyrics that inquire into the state of spiritual marketplace and the isolating results of consumption. It’s an exhilarating and singular piece of hardcore electronic punk, with Lip Critic painting with a broad pallet of only the most extreme hues of emotion, each marked by a distinctive danceable mania.
