What is LinkedIn Local?
If you've never been to LinkedIn Local Hamilton, it's unlike most other networking events.
Gone are the cliché sales pitches and business cards. It is more like hanging out with friends at a party or a bar... But those friends are other local business professionals.
This is now our 9th year of events.
Some of the region's most iconic venues have hosted us, and we've heard from some of the most influential and successful people in the Waikato business community.
Below is a snapshot of what to expect at a LinkedIn Local Hamilton event.
EVENT SPEAKERS
We'll hear from a panel of three local speakers discussing our theme of the changing face of media.
Himanshu (Ash) Parmar
Business Owner | Entrepreneur | Politician
Ash originally used LinkedIn and other social media to advertise his online liquor store, Eight PM, and whisky-tasting events. He then used his growing audience to be an advocate on retail crime, after his own business suffered multiple robberies, speaking publicly and campaigning for stronger protections.
This led to Ash standing as the ACT Party candidate for the Hamilton East electorate in the 2023 New Zealand general election. He is a great example of leveraging social media, and inparticular LinkedIn, to spread his message to a wider audience.
Jonathan MacKenzie
Editor - Waikato Times
A highly experienced journalist and editor, Jonathan has been with the Waikato Times since 2010, guiding them through a period of major transformation in the media industry.
Over his career, Jonathan has witnessed and adapted to the shift from traditional print journalism to a digital-first environment shaped by social media, real-time news cycles, and changing audience expectations. MacKenzie has played a key role in balancing the demands of speed and online engagement with the core journalistic values of accuracy, trust, and public accountability.
Phillip Quay
Director - Media PA and NZ Business Connect | Ex-Fairfax Media journalist
Phillip is a former journalist with over 20 years of experience in the newspaper, internet, and media industries in New Zealand and overseas, including writing for the Waikato Times.
He is the founder and CEO of NZ Business Connect, a networking platform he launched to help connect new, emerging and established businesses in innovative ways, in this changing digital landscape.
It should be a fascinating conversation.
We hope to see you there!
