What is Lindy Hop?
Lindy hop is a partner dance that emerged during the 1930s and 40s in Harlem, New York alongside Big Band swing and jazz. Just like the blues, this art form rose from the Afro American community and eventually became mainstream, spreading to Europe and the rest of the world during World War II.
A joyful and improvisational dance, it is a wonderful way to connect with a partner and with music. A few simple guidelines are all you need to get you started and swinging out! For more info, visit www.swingstation.sg

April 2021 Intermediate - Guest Teacher, Chong Chan Meng

Chan Meng started dancing in his undergraduate days at Stamford University, with historian Richard Power’s Vintage Dance Ensemble.

Learning the polka, waltz, hustle, and schottische and more gave him a firm understanding of lead and follow skills in a wide range of styles. It was also during that time when the “Gap era” of the Swing revival swept the Bay area and he was soon lindy hopping to the live swing bands playing every weekend.

On his return to Singapore, Chan Meng’s Bleyers were soon dancing with the local lindy scene and since then he has been a key part of encouraging and growing the community in Asia.
Chan Meng is known amongst all the follows as having a clear, concise and very creative lead! He will sharing his secrets via a dance known as the One Step. (Guess how many counts the basic has…!)
