About this Event
Lindon City is offering free training to be part of the local Community Emergency Response Team - CERT.
The course is FREE and takes approximately 24 hours to graduate.
CERT gear is required and includes a CERT hi-vis vest, hard-hat, gloves, goggles, and backpack. These can be acquired on your own or bought through Lindon City for $40.
CERT improves self-reliance and survival with practical skills building in first aid, medical operations, search & rescue, carry techniques, building damage assessment, fire suppression, and instruction concerning local hazards and local response plans.
Half of those hours are online at your own pace and it is highly encouraged you complete the online materials before the first in-person on March 13.
In-person training will be on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings: Thurs March 13 from 6-8pm, Sat March 15 from 8am-12pm, Thurs March 20 from 6-8pm, Sat March 22 from 8am-12pm. Participants should plan on attending all in-person sessions.
The capstone activity is participation in a mock drill. The date is Sat April 19, 2025.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
This is a hybrid online and in-person training. The online training sessions (onlinecert.org) cover all of the required information with the in-person training being used to help put it in practice. The in-person training will happen over the course of four Saturday mornings, each lasting just under four hours. The final Saturday morning will be a mock disaster where you will practice applying what you have learned.
Using the training learned online and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
Participants are requested to bring their CERT kit and PPE (personal protection equipment) with them each session during the training. CERT kits can be purchased prior to training from Lindon City.
