About this Event
Lincoln Guildhall is please to be a part of the Lincoln Festival of History 2024. Discover the true heart of the historic city during a tour of Lincoln Guildhall. The Roman south gate occupied this site more than 800 years before the construction of the castle and cathedral. The site has been home to the city administration for over 784 years. In addition to the story of the building and the council chamber the tour will also take in the Civic Regalia said to be one of the most important collections in the country, and the Royal Charters of the city, a collection which commences in the year 1157. Recipient of multiple Visit England Accolades, it's a tour that's not to be missed. For the Festival of History, in addition to the Guildhall, the tours will take in the landscape outside along the route of the Roman Ermine Street, the 12th century High Bridge, a section of the river Witham which was so important to Lincoln's success and finish with a visit to the 4th century Postern Gate which served the Roman port on the banks of the river Witham. Almost 2000 years of Lincoln's history in one place.
Please be aware that due to the nature of both venues and the short walking tour, it is necessary for visitors to be able to ascend and decsend several staircases without assistance. If in doubt please contact the organiser.
