The Knox-Galesburg Symphony opens the 2025-2026 season with a powerful tribute to American spirit and local legacy. Under the direction of Richard Cangro, this program features Lincoln Portrait by Aaron Copland, with actor Steven Duchrow portraying Carl Sandburg as narrator—a nod to Sandburg’s Grammy-winning 1960 performance. Also on the program are
Copland’s stirring Fanfare for the Common Man, Barber’s deeply moving Adagio for Strings, and Gershwin’s vibrant An American in Paris. This unforgettable evening blends music, poetry, theater, and the enduring presence of Carl Sandburg in the heart of Galesburg.
