A self-paced or competitive scavenger hunt helping you dive deep into the history of Chicago's Lincoln Park.
REGISTRATION AVAILABLE 6/6/21: LINCOLN PARK
Chicago for Chicagoans cordially invites you to dig out some "real clothes" and venture into the great outdoors for a series of educational neighborhood scavenger hunts. These unique events created by and for Chicagoans will scratch your itch to explore, help you learn more about our city's neighborhoods, and bring a fresh breath of cautious normalcy back into your life. See the full lineup at: chicagoforchicagoans.org/events !
Hunt with your household, a small group of friends or family, or use this opportunity to meet someone new while outside and safely spaced. Compete against your fellow players for the grand prize, or work the hunt at your own pace for a self-guided dive into the rich history and hidden delights of Lincoln Park. Equal parts informative and fun!
RULES & GUIDELINES
-We ask that all attendees maintain 6 feet of distance from other hunt groups and passerby. Everyone must wear a mask at the beginning and ending locations of the event and follow CDC guidelines appropriate to their vaccination status throughout the rest of the hunt.
-Not only are you allowed to use your cellphone, you'll probably need it! The hints on these Google-proof hunts are written by our neighborhood historians, and tricky enough to stump even the biggest know-it-alls around. Neighborhood familiarity will help you, but strategy is the secret to success! (Even tourists have been known to win with clever choices and smart teamwork.)
-The maximum hunt size is four players. We ask that larger groups split into two or more teams to avoid crowding and ensure comfortable distances can be maintained.
-This hunt is family friendly, and children are welcome to join in on the fun! However, we recommend at least one adult player per team due to historical references and vocabulary that may prove difficult for younger audiences.
-For teams seeking to win and planning to play competitively: hunts are meant to be played on foot! No bikes, cars, taxis, skateboards, horses, sleds, mopeds, scooters, rollerblades, or other accelerated transport is allowed without permission from the hunt organizer. (Participants with mobility restrictions are, of course, entitled to reasonable accommodations.)
EVENT DETAILS
-Plan to bring: charged cell phones, masks for all attendees (even if you're vaxxed), comfy walking shoes, drinking water, a writing utensil, and a weather-appropriate outfit.
-Hunt routes will be handed out at 11:00am sharp! Plan to arrive a bit early if you hope to win. The start location will only be staffed for twenty minutes. Please plan accordingly and ensure your timely arrival.
-Depending on how good of a sleuth you are, there may be up to 3 miles of walking involved.
-A staff member will be available at the final location (find it with the help of your hunt route) for the last two hours of the hunt. Meet them there to have your answers checked, obtain your winnings, pickup a guide to local restaurants, mingle with other attendees, and say thanks!
-This event is offered on a pay-what-you-can basis, with a suggested donation of $15 per person. All players must register in advance through Eventbrite and sign a liability waiver.
-Our organization exists to ensure all Chicagoans are given opportunities to learn about their surroundings, no matter what their financial situation may be. Free tickets for this events can be obtained by using the promo code "PAYITFORWARD" on Eventbrite.
-All contributions benefit our very tiny, all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. If you have bit of money to spare, help us continue to make Chicago history freely accessible to all. Donate online at chicagoforchicagoans.org/donate.
