GREEN TARA Sand Mandala - Bodhisattva of Enlightened Action
Public viewing of the Sand Mandala Daily 10am - 5pm daily - February 12 - 15.�
February 11 - Wednesday
* 6:30 pm Green Tara Sand Mandala - Opening Ceremony
Green Tara is the Bodhisattva (“Great Being”) of Enlightened Action. The mandala represents Green Tara's sacred abode.
February 12 - Thursday
* 6:30pm Vajravadaran Healing & Purification Ceremony w/ audience participation
This is a powerful ritual for purification and to remove obstacles in our lives. It involves three stages: cleansing negativity, removing subtle negative residues, and creating a diamond-like shield of protection fostering health, clarity, and spiritual power.
February 13 - Friday�
* 10am - Four Noble Truths - The Buddha’s First Teaching
The foundational teaching shared by all schools of Buddhism throughout the world.
* 6:30 - Green Tara Empowerment for Enlightened Action & Compassion
Ceremony to transmit the healing energy of Green Tara.�
February 14 - Saturday�
* 10am Butter Sculpture Workshop & Tibetan Calligraphy Demonstration.
Family-friendly and all-ages fun, this hands-on workshop will have you making “tormas” or small figures traditionally made of barley flour and yak butter and used in various ceremonies. Also a demonstration of beautiful Tibetan calligraphy.
* 7pm Tibetan Cultural Night: Chöd Ceremony for Removing Obstacles w/Tibetan chant & music, followed by the unique “Monastic Debate” demonstration and audience Q&A.
The Chöd Ceremony for removing fear and attachment, and includes beautiful Tibetan chant and traditional music with drums, bells, and horns. The ceremony will be followed by a demonstration of the often hilarious and sometimes acrobatic Tibetan “monastic debate” and an audience Q&A with the monks.
February 15 - Sunday�
* 10am Meditation Workshop with the Monks. For first-time or experienced meditators.
�* 4pm Green Tara Sand Mandala Dissolution Ceremony
Closing ritual when the Gaden Shartse monks will do a brief explanation of the finished mandala, and then will ritually “dissolve” the mandala back into “emptiness” by carefully sweeping it up, signifying the impermanence of all “compounded” things. Small packets of sand will be distributed to those on hand as keepsake blessing, and the rest of the sand carried to the D River, where it will be offered to the water as a blessing to all beings.
All events are walk up (no ticket required) and open to the public on a suggested donation basis. See website for specifics.
All proceeds raised go to housing, medical, and education facilities at Gaden Shartse Phukhang Monastery in India, and are tax-deductible.
