This training will provide CEUs for pesticide applicators licensed/certified by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).

8:00 – 8:15 – Welcome, Introductions, Paperwork
8:15 – 9:05 – Florida Pesticide Laws – Presenter: Mark Tancig
Discussion of Florida laws that pertain to the application of pesticides, including insecticide, fungicide, and herbicide. We will discuss the various licenses and certifications that are required depending on the location, method, and product used. We will also discuss responsibilities of licensed/certified applicators. (1 CEU in CORE category)
9:05 – 9:55 – Pesticide Safety – Presenter: Mark Tancig
Discussion of practical methods to reduce pesticide risk and exposure. We will review pesticide toxicity, common exposure routes, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and procedures to follow in case of a pesticide exposure or spill.(1 CEU in CORE category)

10:10 – 11:00 – Balancing Pest Management with Biodiversity Conservation – Presenter: Mark Tancig
This presentation will focus on how to try to balance the need to manage landscape pests, specifically insects, while protecting pollinators and other non-pest insects. We will review strategies to minimize non-target damage, including pesticide selection, mode of action, and application method. (1 CEU in LLO, LCLM, O&T, or L&O category)
11:00 – 11:50 – Emerging Landscape Pests – Presenter: Mark Tancig
In this presentation, we will review new landscape pests and others to be on the lookout for in the north Florida area as part of a good IPM monitoring strategy. (1 CEU in LLO, LCLM, O&T, or L&O category)

No exams will be adminsistered following the training.
