Mac's will host the experimental comics duo Lilly Thu Fierro and Generoso Fierro on Thursday, October 3rd at 7 pmLily Thu Fierro and Generoso Fierro are plasticgrapes, and they create and self-publish experimental comics that combine Lily’s training and research as a computational cognitive scientist at MIT with Generoso’s visual eye as a painter, film reviewer, and award-winning film curator. Both are constantly thinking about new storytelling methods to make comics that are experiential yet grounded in narrative.
Their scientist/subject triptych explored how science and technology interact with the individual experiences of researchers and experimental subjects. The duo released the first book of the triptych, Vessel, in early 2022, then followed it up with Inversion in the fall of 2022, and closed the triptych with Chua in the fall of 2023.
Inversion was nominated for a 2023 Ignatz Award in the Outstanding Story category. Chua was selected as a Top 10 Graphic Novel of 2023 by Ryan Carey of Ryan C.’s Four Color Apocalypse.
Their latest comic, Absolute Simultaneity, deconstructs notions of time, measurement, and perception from both scientific and philosophical perspectives.
