Summer Reading Challenge Launch Fun Day Lillington Library - Saturday 13th July 11am-4pm
We are inviting children aged 4-11 years to come along to the Library on Saturday 13th to join this years Summer Reading Challenge - Marvellous Makers and take part in fun, free creative activities and workshops.
We have lots of exciting activities planned including:
- African Drumming with In2Cultures
- Tudor Musicians Coranto
- Hip Hop Poet Kurly McGeachie
- Free Creative Arts Packs for Children joining the challenge (whilst stocks last)
- Free Lunches (whilst stocks last)
- Arts & Crafts
The Summer Reading Challenge is an annual reading challenge for children aged 4-11, run in partnership with Reading Agency, and this year the theme 'Marvellous Makers' celebrates the arts, makers and creativity.
In2Cultures is a Midlands based award winning creative arts company working on multicultural projects in schools and the community. Liz and Devinder run weekly African drumming workshops in Stratford-upon-Avon, and also teach Bhangra dancing every week as a community initiative in Rugby.
They’ve worked in nearly 200 different care homes as far afield as Wales and have also worked for the Alzheimer’s Society delivering dementia cafes. They also support the Healing Arts programme in a Coventry hospital. They currently run weekly sessions in partnership with ILEAP, a charity based in Stratford-upon-Avon. Kurly is literacy consultant and poetry workshop facilitator, working in schools, colleges and universities delivering mass engagement values literacy workshops. In community settings Kurly delivers family-friendly poetry workshops, with rhyme challenges, beatbox games and poems.
