The Electric Film Series returns to the Electric Theater at 6 PM on Tuesday, November 19th with a 2010’s release that’s moving, understated, and thought provoking in equal measure. “Like Father, Like Son” (2013)
—-------------------------------------------
Not to be confused with the beloved 80s Dudley Moore/Kirk Cameron father/son comedy of the same name, this Japanese import from the gifted writer/director Hirokazu Koreeda (“Shoplifters,” “Monster”) presents a father/son story of a much more hard-hitting (and understated) nature. What would you do if you discovered that the child you raised as your own was actually switched at birth? This is the provocative hook at the heart of “Like Father, Like Son,” a quiet but powerful exploration into the tough decision a workaholic businessman must make after making a most startling discovery. Experience a film that Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times calls “meaningful and deeply moving.”
Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also all about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our special guest speaker for “Like Father, Like Son” is gifted writer/director Joseph DeGolyer and he couldn’t be more fitting for the proceedings as his recently released feature film, “Chicken Coop,” also happens to be an understated story about a father/son relationship.
Be sure to arrive at our “Like Father, Like Son” screening a little early and order an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take the pizza home with you following the movie.
The Electric Film Series is free for the community, but donations are greatly encouraged as every cent raised will go towards covering our quickly approaching 2025 Electric Film Series season. When RSVPing for your “Like Father, Like Son” tickets, it will now list a "Name Your Own Price" option. You're welcome to put $0 so that the tickets are free of charge but again, we hope you'll consider a donation.
Regardless, thank you for your endless support.
