About this Event
EVENT DETAILS

Last year, environmental activists shut down the world's largest coal port in so-called Newcatle on the traditional lands and waters Awabakal and Woromi people by rowing out on kayaks to block any ships coming in and out. 6 months later, we can now see the exclusive experiences of activists on the ground. The MSA Environment and Social Justice department has collaborated with the Rising Tide collective to offer an exclusive showing of their incredible film, 'The First Wave'. Join us for an afternoon of insightful conversations, time spent with fellow climate activists, and filled with inspiring moments.

MSA ESJ and Rising Tide are very excited to be collaborating to showcase the film 'First Wave', a recount of the Rising Tide action last year to blockade the Newcastle Coal Port, the largest in the world. This short 20 minute film offers unique insights into understanding how climate movements operate, and the people behind this incredible action.
Over some free muffins and hot chocolate provided by Monash Wholefood, join us as we explore the effectiveness of Rising Tide's strategy of climate action, the nature of modern climate protests, and what we can do right here at Monash University to disrupt and challenge the Fossil Fuel industry.
