Gather together and celebrate Matariki in the the little town of Hikurangi!!We will be lighting up our Village and hosting an epic Matariki event!
With lots of kaihaukai (feasting), indoor & outdoor markets, live
performances, art displays, free rides for kids & story time shared by our kaumatua.
Our local shops will join in the celebration by staying open late and the whole Village will welcome the new year with a community waiata at 5pm.
At Matariki the village of Hikurangi lights up and welcomes you one and all to share this special time with us.
Matariki is a time for aroha (love), whakamaumaharatanga
(remembrance), kotahitanga (unity), manaakitanga (caring), tohatoha (sharing), mana taiao (environmental awareness), kaihaukai (feasting), wananga (discussion), noho tahi (coming together), ngakau atawhai (kindness), whakanui (celebrations), taukiritanga (identity).
