At Lifeways 2024 we will explore the theme "Shaped by the past, Forging the future" through lectures, workshops, conversations, crafts, storytelling and musical activities. The full programme will be available in February 2024 when booking opens.
Here is a little bit about the week:
Lifeways is a week for all ages set in the beautiful buildings and grounds of Emerson College, East Sussex. Workshops include basketry, storytelling, painting, eurythmy, autobiographical writing, nature observations and more.
Each day after breakfast there is the opportunity to sing and move to wake up and start the day. You will have a morning and afternoon workshop for the week where you will get to explore a topic or craft. The evening programme includes music, lectures, stories and entertainment. All meals are taken care of by the amazing Emerson Kitchen using local and organic produce, each year the food is a highlight for many. You have the choice to book a room or to camp in the Emerson orchard.
For those coming with children everything has been considered, so you can engage in a workshop while your child plays, makes friends and engages in activities with others their own age. Each evening there are babysitters in the family accommodation and campsite, so that you can attend the evening events.
Children aged 3 and under will join the Parent and Child Group where families can get together each morning and engage in crafts, stories, songs and a snack together.
For those with children aged 4 - 6 years there is the Play Camp, which is located in the beautiful Robins Nest Kindergarten and is run by trained Waldorf Kindergarten teachers. You will be able to drop them off happily each morning to play and engage in activities throughout the week.

Children aged 7 - 8 years will join the Day Camp which is run by a trained and highly experienced Waldorf teacher who offers a beautifully engaging week of crafts, adventures, stories, songs and games.
Children aged 9 - 14 years are on the Camp where they will stay away from parents for the week. They will have an assigned 'camp leader' who will be their point of contact and will make sure they are settled and well looked after. Activities will include games, crafts, singing, expeditions, orienteering, fire lighting, cooking, whittling, as well as helping with meal preparation and other camp chores.
All children, including camp children take part in an afternoon workshop, either with or without a parent depending on their age. After that everyday there is a tea break on the lawn, where ice creams and other treats are available. This is the point during the day when parents with children on the Camp can see them and spend some time together.
After tea there is 'market place', a forum to share your own projects or interests with others who will be eager to listen. For the children there will be two puppet shows. Mid week there is a 'Camp open afternoon' where everyone is invited to see the camp, try their homemade pizza and experience the 'camp water slide' so if you are feeling brave don't forget to pack your swimmers!
We end the week with country dancing to live music on the lawn followed by a huge bonfire, with cake and plenty of singing.
Don't forget to look out for Early Bird booking in February and we hope to see you there!
