About this Event
Two magnificent choirs (Gloria Dei Chorale and Valley Festival Singers) join forces with a
professional orchestra and the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra for a collaborative performance
of Mozart’s “Requiem,” a Mass for the Dead.
While this incredible work is of course filled with themes of death, pain, and loss, it also
alludes to joy, love, and triumph. A sacred text, “Requiem” is also a celebration that those
who pass from this life will find eternal life in Heaven. To delve more into this juxtaposition of
life and death, pain and joy, director Rob Workman has also programmed works by Puccini,
Torelli, and Morricone to present a poignant and emotionally charged musical odyssey titled
“Life, Love, and Loss.”
This event brings together prominent musicians from all over the Lower Mainland to deliver
an impeccable performance of one of the most renowned masterworks of all time.
Renowned local conductor Calvin Dyck will serve as Concertmaster for the event. In addition
to this, four local professional singers will be featured as soloists: Alison Nystrom (Soprano),
Katie Fernandez (Alto), Jonny Michel (Tenor), and David Rosborough (Bass).
